MTV Networks has announced a plan to invest $420 million into animation for MTV ($50 million) and Nickelodeon ($350 million) over the next five years. Both broadcasters plan to create brand-new animated series through a joint council of MTV Networks execs that will encourage exchanges between the respective networks' creators. While some work will be done in-house in their new production studios, some will be farmed out to outside houses like Nicktoons in LA, MTV Studios in NYC, and creators like Klasky Csupo (currently providing Nick with Rugrats).

Todd McFarland's Spawn, has become a success in its adult-language animated form on HBO. Actor Keith David (Armegeddon, They Live, Gargoyles) is the voice of Spawn, and is joined by (among others) Richard A. Dysart as Cogliostro, and Michael Nicolosi as Clown. Times vary, check local listings.
