Self Defense

Divider Bar

I feel like a fool
For daring to hope,
But without hope
There is no life,
And it is so good
To feel alive again.
Yet even as I see
My hope rising up,
My fear clamps down
So I cannot breathe.
I want so much to reach out to you,
But I've had my hand slapped
One too many times.
I've become a coward,
And maybe I've given up.
The fear is stronger than the hope,
So again, there is no life,
But at least there is no pain.
