Literary Fiction & Blues Lyricists
Featured
Author: Ursule Perrin, Warren County author of six novels is especially
known for GHOSTS published by Knopf, New York. Other novels are
The Looking Glass Lover, Little Brown and Cool's Ridge,
Permanent Press. Ms. Perrin is a graduate of Smith College, a member of
PEN American Center and a founder of the Paulinskill-Pequest Watershed
Association, a local environmental group. A resident of Blairstown, she
has recently published two novels which take place in Warren County. She
will read from her work and discuss literary fiction in today's publishing
market. She was recently quoted in The New York Times on the subject.
Host Author, Daniela Gioseffi, American Book Award winner for her classic
of women's studies, Women on War, International Voices (Simon &
Schuster/Touchstone Books) recently, published her tenth book, a collection
of stories and a novella, In Bed with the Exotic Enemy. Founding
President of the Skylands Writers & Artists Association, promoting
literary art throughout Northwest Jersey, she is also the author of a
feminist novel, The Great American Belly, (Doubleday/Dell &
New English Library.) A member of PEN American Center and The National
Book Critics Circle, she will read from her work and discuss with Ms.
Perrin literary fiction in today's publishing market.
Paula Dyer, radio host of the popular and long-lived "Wild Women
Never Get the Blues,"at WNTI, 91.9 FM, Centenary Radio, writes regularly
for Skylands Blues News and has syndicated her own column. She
has published articles in Blues Access and New Jersey Music
Guide. Ms. Dyer has spoken on the art of the blues at Sussex County
Community College, and hosted a festival at the Stanhope House, a nationally
reknown blues venue of the region. She will speak on women blues lyricists
from the 20's through the 50's.
Rick Peters, accomplished pianist, music director for musical shows at
County College of Morris, plays regularly with a jazz trio for which he
writes original music. A resident of Rocksbury, trained at Julliard and
Manhattan School of Music, he teaches piano and jazz improvisation. He
has played at numerous venues throughout New Jersey and New York. Examples
of women's blues compositions, to illustrate Ms. Dyer's talk, will be
provided by Mr. Peters with Daniela G. who has sung widely throughout
the country and Europe.

NATIVE VOICES FROM TURTLE ISLAND with Chief Standing Bear , Brian Wilkes
(Yona Gadoga) of the American Cherokee Confederacy, NY/NJ Region and Kelly
Moonwater Frederick (Mni-wi) plus others.This Native poetry festival will
include drumming , a display of native crafts, and the erection of a Tipi
on the back lawn of Centenary College, weather permitting. In case of
rain the festival will be held in the front parlors.

These
events are free and opened to the public. Sponsored by Skylands Writers
& Artists Association, Warren County Cultural and Heritage Association
and made possible by a grant from The New Jersey Council for the Humanities
